Charles Berkley Normann
(1903-1985) was the first director of the Texas School of Fine Arts. A renowned artist, Dr. Normann painted many portraits, and landscapes. The bathroom doors (shown below) at Scholz Garten are an example. This men's room door is a self portrait of Dr. Normann in a
German holiday costume. We are asked everyday if this door leads to the men's bathroom. Dr. Normann and Jesse Kinser (a manager of Scholz's) painted murals of several German country scenes on the walls of the front room of Scholz Garten.
